Julie Bernier, Founder of True Ayurveda
I’m lucky enough to have been teaching ayurvedic self care at WMNSpace since the first day they opened their doors. Every single time I teach or sit in circle as a student I am in absolute awe of the vulnerability that women embrace in this sanctuary—opening their hearts to strangers, sharing stories that they’ve otherwise buried inside, being willing to grow. I’m honored to have the opportunity to do the same with you today, and I hope to meet many more of you at WMN SPACE soon!
What called you to your work at WMN?
Ayurveda has helped me more than I can describe in one post. I came to it both incredibly excited to learn, and also really out of balance. I was getting my period twice a month, I hadn’t had a solid poo in over two years, and worst of all my skin was terrible—I couldn’t hide what was happening on the inside. I thought I was doing all the right things and was so incredibly frustrated. Western doctors were useless and dismissed all my crazy symptoms as normal. Ayurveda was an absolute savior. My practitioner validated my symptoms and that I really was way out of balance. She explained that I was doing all the wrong things for my body, which was actually a relief to hear. Most importantly, she pinned it all to my mind and fear, and helped me dig deep to figure out where my fear was coming from. I did so much self work to discover it was rooted in a lack of self love. And learning to love myself was the most transformative medicine of all. Since then, I’ve been healthy, and happy, and so much more purposeful. Not only do I so incredibly love ayurveda, I have felt it work in my own body. It’s real. I’ve studied and experienced ayurveda directly from its source in India, and feel called to translate it as authentically as possible for western life and western minds. It’s an absolute honor to be able to help other women come into balance through its wisdom. Ayurveda is too amazing and needed to not be part of everyone’s life, which is why I teach ayurvedic self care workshops at WMN SPACE as often as possible.
